Ahern promises justice for Limerick killers
Minister for Justice Dermot Ahern has warned the murderers of Shane Geoghegan that “no resources will be spared in hunting them down and bringing them to justice”.
He added “It’s one thing shooting a young apprentice plumber in Dublin but the minute you start targetting middle-class rugby players, the most vulnerable members of our society, then you’re opening yourself up to a world of hurt. We’re going to find these guys and open up a can of whoop-ass like you’ve never seen”.
Garda Chief Fachtna Murphy has assured citizens that the Gardai, armed with sticks, will be more than a match for the heavily armed criminal gangs. “We outnumber them so although we’ll suffer some casualties on the front line and during the initial push eventually we’ll get close enough to biff their heads in”.
Meanwhile, Taoiseach Tommy Carcetti has gone back on his promise to increase the money given to Gardai stamp out organised crime gangs and instead used it to print 3,500,000 4 page, full colour, glossy leaflets explaining why the government cannot go ahead with the cervical cancer vaccination for young girls.
Critics have pointed out that the printing, even though it was done at Prontaprint, cost twice actual cost of the vaccination program. Carcetti has dismissed them as ‘corner boys’ and ‘dark sided’, adding that tough decisions have to be made in these difficult times and that anyone who didn’t like them could go and live ’somewhere better, like the mythical equator’.

I’m stunned, that second paragraph could have been lifted wholesale from my mind.
Stop stealing from my brain, knowingly or otherwise.
Comment on November 13, 2008 06:15 pmYeah and stop stealing mine too after I’ve already used it. And The Wire is like sooo earlier on this year.
Comment on November 13, 2008 11:18 pmSee, if Omar were Taoiseach he would protect citizens and only steal from those in the game.
Comment on November 14, 2008 04:31 pmMiddle-class rugby players? How very Dublin of you.
Comment on November 18, 2008 02:12 amNo doubt the disproportionate response to the killing of Shane Geoghegan will provide much solace to those families who have also been victims of gun crime and seen their loved ones completely ignored. No minutes silences, no Gardai inquiries, no hand-wringing the likes of which even Scousers would find cringeworthy.
Comment on November 18, 2008 07:49 amWhy do you think it’s disproportionate? Is it because Shane was a fitter and not a plumber?
Comment on November 18, 2008 12:47 pmIt was disproportionate because other people have been killed without so much fanfare, because other families have been ignored, because, sad as it was, he was just a bloke who got shot. It was an awful thing to happen but ask the families of other victims why their sons/daughters didn’t get the same coverage.
He has been made the Katy French of shooting victims.
