No fundy for Mundy as Galway Girl lie exposed

He might be riding high in the charts on the back of an irritating commercial with a song that sounds like it was written by the Sawdoctors retarded lovechild but the Irish Sentinel today exposes the lie behind the success.

Athlone native Mundy, real name Glenn Ramikin, scored a nationwide hit when 2FM DJ Will ‘The Cabbage’ Leahy, began to play the song every Friday on his drivetime show. Initially public reaction was poor but eventually the people became immune to the song’s incredible crapness and, stuck in their cars, found themselves singing it all the way home.

Mundy - lying to us through song

Mundy - lying to us through song

The song was written by Sharon Shannon and American Steve Earle but it is Mundy who has drawn all the plaudits and the cash, recently purchasing a €4.5m estate on the banks of the Royal Canal in Mullingar. The ostentatious grounds include specially imported Afghan pebbles on the driveway made from the Buddha blown up by the Taliban. Mundy has become well known in the area for his extravagant parties which go on as late as 1.30am and feature bottle after bottle of Lidl’s most expensive Australian Shiraz.

The finale of the party is Mundy and guests singing and dancing to Galway Girl. But shameless Mundy hides a dark secret which a former close friend explains. “He doesn’t like Galway Girls at all. When we were young we went to the Gaeltacht down near Carraroe and this local girl fell head over heels in love with him. It was obvious she was mad about him but he treated her worse than you’d treat a black dog. He called her all kinds of names like ‘Geeface’, ‘Stenchyquim’ and ‘Megaflaps’ in front of everyone else. When she’d go off crying he’d say ‘That’s Galway girls for you. They just can’t take a bit of slagging’.

To be honest I thought he was way out of line. She was a nice girl, Gráinne Something was her name. Dark haired, cute little lisp. I wonder what she’s doing now. Anyway, the point is it’s a bit rich for Mundy to go around extolling the virtues of Galway girls when the truth is he hates them and prefers a bit of Mayo tail. Ask him about Dymphna from Swinford, then you’ll see”.

When we contacted Mundy’s record company they refused to comment, only to say “We’re confident that if you gave him an Offaly girl, a Cavan girl and a Galway girl and did a blindfolded taste test, like the Pepsi challenge, that he would choose the right one”.

A former Mundy fan was shocked at the revelation, saying “I’m shocked at the revelation. I never thought Mundy would lie to us. I’m gutted, absolutely gutted”.

The Irish Sentinel takes no pleasure in shattering this young girl’s dreams but the public must know the despicable truth behind the man behind Galway Girl.

3. Not a Boy

Cheap shot and anatomically its the “lads ” who think its funny . Sorry but wouldn’t want to keep company with any of you and it would be your loss. If girls or women spoke about your parts in this way you’d be disgusted . The usual Irish double standard from a nation who puts the mothers on a pedestal to serve the men & children only to hate them for it and yet the next generation does the same . Grow up boys stop being lazy in your classifications of people or you’ll never know the wonders of a real mind, soul, body meeting between the sexes. What singer doesn’t lie in a song , what person doesn’t speak half truths as soon as they use language?
